MORIUMIUS

Application period Dec. 20, 2023 (Wed.) - Sep. 30, 2024 (Mon.)
Description Mega earthquake and tsunami in 2011 caused losing 3/4 of the population in Ogatsu. Now community is only one thousand people, but rich nature where forest is connected to ocean still exist. MORIUMIUS is here to provide sustainable learning opportunities to children. From forest and ocean, creating brighter future of children as well as for Ogatsu. We invite artist who are enthusiastic with spending time in nature as well as people, and to provide workshops for children to be themselves and creative.
In 2020, we call for applications of summer and fall residency.
Residency location MORIUMIUS
Residency period Period of stay; June 1, 2024 – September 30, 2024
Between above period, we ask one to two month stay
Exhibition will be held while each artist's stay
Qualification a) The artist should be working in the field of contemporary art (regardless of genre).
b) The artist should be independent, and capable of working and living on his or her own.
c) The artist should be able to produce and present artwork and to handle the dismantling and removal of that artwork, by him or herself within the designated period of time.
d) The artist should understand the purpose of his or her visit to Moriumius, and be able to be present for more than 30 days of the residency period.
e) The artist should be able to live with the other artists and staff on the program.
f) The artist should be able to organize workshops for children, school visits etc) and should be prepared to take an active role in the educational art program.
g) The artist should be able to explain his or her artwork, and to give lectures or workshops in English or Japanese as part of the exchange program.
h) The artist should be in good health.
i) The artist should be able to speak and understand basic English daily conversation.
Pay by artists / Support for artists MORIUMIUS will provide accommodation and meal/ ingredients during the residency
Selection process MORIUMIUS will strictly screen all applicants. The applicants will be informed of the final decision one to two month after receiving application.
