Open Call | “Modes of Access – Digital Residencies 2026”

Künstler*dorf Schöppingen and kaethe:k Kunsthaus are currently inviting applications for “Modes of Access – Digital Residencies 2026,” a digital residency programme taking place from August to October 2026.

The programme will be conducted entirely online and in English, allowing participants to work from their own locations. The thematic focus is “Modes of Access,” exploring technological and political dimensions of access to resources and investigating how digital spaces can create more diverse forms of participation rather than standardising them.

The open call is aimed at professional artists and collectives working with digital media and technology, including video, sound, computers, the internet, software, and related practices.

Applicants must live more than 1,500 km from Schöppingen, Germany, and be unable to travel due to circumstances such as limited mobility, disability, chronic illness, caring responsibilities, visa restrictions, or dependence on local support networks.

The programme particularly encourages applications from chronically ill, disabled, and/or neurodiverse artists, as well as those facing barriers to travel such as visa restrictions or care responsibilities. The digital format has been developed as a response to structural exclusions that prevent many artists from participating in residency programmes and the cultural field more broadly.

Collective applications are also welcome. Artists interested in applying as a collective are encouraged to contact the programme team in advance to discuss possible formats and arrangements.
