MOYA Creative Residence

Objective MOYA Creative Residence is a rural retreat and cultural exchange program in Kaneyama, Yamagata.

We provide artists, writers, researchers, and other creative practitioners with time and space to focus on their work while engaging with the nature, culture, and everyday life of rural Japan.

Our goal is to foster creativity, reflection, and meaningful connections across cultures.
Organization activities 1)Creative residency stays for artists, writers, researchers, and other creative practitioners
2)A quiet environment for focused work, reflection, and creative development
3)Opportunities to engage with local culture, crafts, nature, and everyday life in Kaneyama
4)Access to the private library and shared spaces for reading, research, and conversation
5)Curatorial support and local connections for independent projects and research
Founded in 2025
Background MOYA Creative Residence was created through the reuse of the former Kishi family residence in Kaneyama.

Honoring the late owner's wish to support the cultural development of Kaneyama and encourage connections beyond the region, the property was transformed into a place for creative practice and cultural exchange.
Location / Environment Located in the center of Kaneyama, surrounded by Kaneyama style architecture, waterways, and rice fields, offering close access to the region’s nature and culture.
