Objective Music and Art from the Nagoya Port Area

Assembridge NAGOYA is a festival set in the Nagoya Port area (Minatomachi), showcasing music and contemporary art since 2016.
From the year 2021, we have started our new activities based on the Artist in Residence (AIR) program as an alternative to the art festivals we have organized in the past.
Artist in Residence is an activity to invite artists to stay and work in towns and cities. We have supported many artists’ creations in the Nagoya Port area within the past editions of our art festival, and looking back at the Nagoya Port area’s history, there was once a studio project for artists to utilize an empty warehouse by the harbor.
Based on these foundations in our history, this program aims to bridge people and the town and eventually nurture a new culture by having artists and creators stay in the Nagoya Port area and create artworks and conduct activities.
Through planning and conducting exhibitions, concerts, and other art and music events with the artists participating in the Artist in Residency, we aim to provide an enriching experience for the audience and many people.

Background Assembridge NAGOYA is a festival set in the Nagoya Port area (Minatomachi), showcasing music and contemporary art since 2016. From 2015 to 2020, we annually held the festival in public spaces and empty houses in the Nagoya Port area, with a diverse program of exhibitions, concerts, and events, where music and art acted as a bridge and artists worked together to approach the history and everyday lives of the area.
From the year 2021, we have started our new activities based on the Artist in Residence (AIR) program as an alternative to the art festivals we have organized in the past.
Location / Environment The district is adjacent to The Port of Nagoya, which is the largest logistics hub among ports in Japan. After its port functions moved to be relocated, the district has formed a unique townscape with a mixture of various buildings including warehouses, harbor facilities, office buildings, tourist facilities such as the aquarium, along with old shopping streets and residential area.
