Description | The Artist in Residence KOBE (AiRK) OPEN CALL provides accommodations for artists working in Japan and abroad for a minimum of 1 month and a maximum of 3 months. While research and creation in collaboration with cultural facilities active in Kobe during their stay at AiRK, the artists will hold workshops to interact with local people, exchange meeting with local artists, or exhibit and perform their works, in order to more activate the culture of Kobe. |

Qualification | Length of Residence: Individuals and groups that can stay and work at Artist in Residence KOBE (AiRK) for a minimum of 1 month and a maximum of 3 months. Community Engagement: Be willing to engage in exchange activities with locals during the length of stay. Language: Ability to communicate in Japanese or English Expenses: Ability to cover own airfare, transportation expenses, living expenses, and other costs and expenses related to the final work. House Rules: Able to follow house rules and live cooperatively with fellow residents and house managers. |
Pay by artists / Support for artists | *Expenses for Accommodation - 1 month 100,000 yen for one person (one bedroom with shared bath and kitchen). - For artists staying more than 1 month, we will charge 25,000 yen for additional one week for additional expenses. - The artist will occupy one bedroom with a shared bathroom and kitchen in our two bedroom apartment. If you have an additional person staying in the same room, you will be charged an additional 50,000 yen per month. - Please note that utility costs are covered with the above expenses but food, transportation, coordination, and art material are not included in the expenses. *About our support - Coordination for artistic production and research ※AiRK does not have a dedicated studio or atelier, but through negotiations with cooperating cultural facilities (art centers, dance centers, etc.), AiRK provides a venue for artists to create their work. - Arrangement of venues for presentation of artworks in collaboration with cultural facilities in Kobe - Cooperation in public relations, including event announcements |
