| Description | Mega earthquake and tsunami in 2011 caused losing 3/4 of the population in Ogatsu. Now community is less than thousand people, but rich nature where forest is connected to ocean still exist. MORIUMIUS is located in a National Park, using one hundred years old wooden former elementary school. Renovated in 2015 with over five thousand volunteers and professionals like architect Kengo Kuma. Providing regenerative learning opportunities to children, in order to create brighter future of children as well as for Ogatsu. We invite artist who are enthusiastic with spending time in nature as well as people, and to provide workshops for children to be themselves and creative. In 2026, we call for applications of summer and fall residency. |

| Residency period | Period of stay; June 1, 2026 – October 31, 2026 Between above period, we ask two weeks to one month stay Exhibition can be held while each artist's stay |
| Qualification | a) The artist should be actively working in the field of contemporary art (regardless of genre). b) The artist should be independent, and capable of working and living on his or her own. c) The artist should be able to produce and present artwork and to handle the dismantling and removal of that artwork, by him or herself within the designated period of time. d) The artist should understand the purpose of his or her visit to MORIUMIUS, and be able to be present for 14 to 30 days of the residency period. e) The artist should be able to live with the other artists and staff during the residency. f) The artist should be able to organize workshops for children, school groups etc), once or twice a werk, and should be prepared to take an active role in the educational art program. g) The artist should be able to explain his or her artwork, and to give lectures or workshops in English or Japanese as part of the exchange program. h) The artist should be in good health. i) The artist should be able to speak and understand basic English daily conversation. j) Understanding, love, and passion toward nature, children, and community devastated by disaster. |
| Pay by artists / Support for artists | MORIUMIUS will provide accommodation and meals/ or ingredients during the residency. Artist needs to provide their own transportation to Ogatsu. |
| Selection process | MORIUMIUS will strictly screen all applicants. In order to apply, please send us an email with some of the reasons to take part in our residence program and how you can contribute to MORIUMIUS's work. There will be a online interview, then you will be informed of the final decision one to two month after receiving application. |
