iki base artist in residence

Application period May. 9, 2025 (Fri.) - Jun. 19, 2025 (Thu.)
Description ikibase will host the "Summer Session" from June 1 to July 1, 2025, and is inviting artists to participate. Selected artists will be provided with accommodation and a creative space free of charge. This session will bring together artists and creators from Japan and abroad. Participating artists will immerse themselves in Iki’s beautiful natural surroundings, engage with the local community, and create works inspired by their unique backgrounds and perspectives.During the residency, public events, exhibitions, and workshops will be held to foster creative exchanges with locals and visitors.
Applications for stays are accepted at any time until mid-July.
Residency location Guesthouse adjacent to the ikibase atelier
Residency period from June 1 to July 1, 2025
Qualification Be an actively practicing artist (any genre)
Be able to live cooperatively with other artists and staff while maintaining good relationships with the local community
Be in good physical and mental health
Be capable of managing all aspects of their creative and daily life independentlyPlan and host at least one public event such as a workshop or exhibition, including promotion and audience engagement
Follow residency rules, including maintaining cleanliness of shared spaces

●Accommodation (ikibase Guesthouse): Bedroom (bedding & towels provided), kitchen (cooking utensils included), toilet, shower (hairdryer), Wi-Fi, washing machine
 *Artists must wash and return provided sheets and towels before departure.
  Personal toiletries and consumables should be brought by the participants.
●Atelier space (within the ikibase Guesthouse premises)

・No financial support for production costs, travel expenses, or living expenses
・No financial support for event-related materials
・No transportation from the port to ikibase
・No meals provided
<Upon Completion of Residency>
・Participants must clean their rooms before departure and wash & return used sheets and towels.
・All personal belongings must be taken home.
・The atelier must be cleaned before leaving.
・Any waste from artistic activities must be taken to Iki Clean Center for disposal.
Selection process <Selection Process>
Applicants should submit the following to Hase (ikibase@east-inc.jp):
・Profile detailing artistic background
・Preferred residency period (minimum 2 weeks to 1 month; negotiable)
・Planned activities during the residency
・Plans for exhibitions or events on Iki Island
・Means of transportation on Iki Island

There is no specified format for submission. Please note that submitted documents will not be returned. Selection will be based on the submitted materials, followed by an online interview.
