Fukuoka Asian Art Museum Artist in Residence Program

Description We are pleased to announce our open call for the two following programs of the next FAAM Artist in Residence Program FY2024. Open call for the “Artist from Japan and Abroad” is a three-month residency which will be held in two terms, summer and autumn. Another program, “Artists from Fukuoka (Long Term Residence)” is an open call for an approx. six-month residency that limits its eligibility to residents of Fukuoka Prefecture.

* Only 1 person will receive financial support by FAAM, if applicants are in a group.

Residency period [Artist from Japan and Abroad]
1st period: July – September, 2024 (approx. 80 days)
2nd period: October - December, 2024 (approx. 80 days)
* Period of residency will be decided according to the proposed project plan and discussion between FAAM and candidates.

[Artists from Fukuoka (Long Term Residence)]
July 2024 - December, 2024 (approx. 5-6 months)
* Period of residency will be decided according to the proposed project plan and discussion between FAAM and candidates.
Qualification [Artists from Abroad] Japanese nationals living overseas are not eligible.
[Artists from Japan] Any nationals living in Japan, EXCEPT for those living in Fukuoka Prefecture.

[Artists from Fukuoka (Long Term Residence)] Applicants must be residents of Fukuoka Prefecture. Any nationals are welcome and eligible to apply.
Be able to commute to the designated studio at least for 2 days a week.
Pay by artists / Support for artists 1) Expenses for international and domestic travels (Only for artists from abroad and Japan) and commuting expenses
2) Accommodation and Living expenses (Only for artists from abroad and Japan)
3) Expenses for art making and exhibition (for a maximum of 500,000 JPY)
4) Expenses for art exchange programs
5) Publicity costs for the residency artist’s exhibition
6) Accident insurance for the invited artist and art insurance, etc. during the residency artist’s exhibition
Selection process Invited artists will be selected through a public call for applications.
