The Kamiyama Artist in Residence (KAIR) Program is an independent project organized by volunteers dedicated to fostering art and culture in the town of Kamiyama. Established in 1999, the program offers selected artists the opportunity to experience life in a Japanese rural community while collaborating with local residents on artistic projects. Each year, two to three artists are invited to Kamiyama for a two-month residency from September to November. During this period, artists produce new works that are presented in an exhibition held in early November. Artists also lead workshops, participate in cultural events, and host open studio days.
