Organization activities | Artist-in-residency program supports artists’ activities and assists artists with exhibiting works completed during the residency at the Ohara Museum of Art. For the 2010 program, two artists will be selected to work in the studio. Their works, completed during the residency, were exhibited at the Museum at the end of the program. A program report was published and distributed to art institutions. |
Founded in | 2005 |
Background | Since its inauguration in 1930, Ohara Museum of Art has supported contemporary artists who are innovative in their outlook. In this context, the museum saw the prospect of artist-in-residence program as an effective and up-to-date method to support artists, in addition to collecting and exhibiting their artworks. The museum decided to base the program in Muisonso, since the utilization of Kojima's former atelier had been a management issue at the museum. The first program was held in 2005, by inviting an artist to take residency. From 2006 onwards, the program has been making an open call for applications. |
Location / Environment | The studio is a 20 minute walk from JR Kurashiki Station, and located on a hilly area facing the river. Surrounded by nature, the atelier itself is over 90 years old, but boasts an expansive floor area. |
