Joya: arte + ecología / AiR is an off-grid and climate positive interdisciplinary residency (since 2006) rooted in the crossroads of art, ecology and sustainable living practice. It is located in the heart of the Parque Natural Sierra María - Los Vélez, in the north of the province of Almería, Andalucía. We supports a range of disciplines including, but not limited to, visual art, writing, music, dance, curatorial and film. Founded and curated by Simon and Donna Beckmann in 2009, the Joya: arte + ecología / AiR programme is grounded in the foundation that dynamic and sustainable creative activity is the backbone to regenerating the land that has been slowly abandoned over the last fifty years. This is one of the sunniest regions of Europe receiving over 3000 hours of sunlight a year. The length of the residency would be 1 to 2 weeks. [Photo: official website]
Matadero Madrid is run by Madrid City Council's Department of Culture, Turism and Sports. One of the characteristics of a residency centre is that it provides workspaces for creators in which they can develop their practice in general, or a specific project. The centre’s work is based on the firm belief that public institutions are duty bound to support experimentation rather than the reproduction of standard formulas. This means that Matadero Madrid plays with new formats of cultural production, which provides residency work spaces for homegrown and overseas creative artists. Through agreements with cultural institutions in other countries, Matadero Madrid runs a programme of regular interdisciplinary residencies. After a period of coexistence in the work spaces, the processes are opened up to the local community with a public viewing. [Photo: official website]

ArtMill is the base of our non-profit organization ArtDialog. Functioning as an alternative cultural space, our Center is a home to an active community of artists, activists, farmers, entrepreneurs and creatives that steward the local ecosystem. ArtMill enables ArtDialog's mission to build cultural discourse through creativity, research, the wider public, experiential learning and education. ArtMill has hosted artists each season to come and have time and space away from urban life to focus on their projects. Our residency program is open to artists in the broad sense of the word: poets, scientists, writers, dancers, musicians, thinkers, creators, farmers, builders, performers or painters of the future. Residencies are a week to a few months in duration and encompass the artist becoming a member of our community and network, whether that be helping out in the gardens, cooking farm-to-table meals, or building a new woodshed.
