  • Medea Electronique-Koumaria ResidencyLaconia, Greece

Since 2009 the artist collective Medea Electronique has organized annually a 10-day experimental artist residency, Koumaria, near Sparta in Greece, focusing on improvisation and new media practices. Artists from all over the world, inspired by the Greek natural landscape, come together to create a multicultural and cross-media ‘dialogue’ culminating in a collective presentation at the end of the residency. The cross-cultural dialogues that the residency engenders both create new artistic speculations and smelt older assumptions. Past residents have formed lasting friendships and new artistic partnerships. Medea Electronique, being an eclectic art collective, is interested in people from diverse cultural and artistic backgrounds. For us the residency serves as a model for future creative endeavors.

  • Stuudio LabusLääne-Viru, Estonia

Stuudio Labus is an artist-run residency programme primarily designed for fiber and textile artists. Our primary aim is to cultivate an environment that fosters creativity, experimentation, and introspection for artists working within the textile field. We strive to offer a platform for sharing skills, experiences, and connections within the vibrant world of fiber and textile art. Situated in an industrial area of Tallinn, Estonia, our studio is located within a former cement factory building. Our residency can accommodate 1-2 artists, with stays ranging from a minimum of two weeks to a maximum of three months. An integral part of our residency programme is the introduction to Estonia's fiber and textile art scene. This includes events, workshops, visits to studios and cultural institutions, and more. We extend a warm invitation to residents to actively partake in these activities.

  • MASSIAMassiaru Village (45km from Pärnu), Estonia

"MASSIA is based in the Estonian countryside, near the Baltic sea, about 180 km south of Tallinn, and 140 km north of Riga (Latvia). The residency is located in the old school house of Massiaru, a little village with about thirty inhabitants, surrounded by forests, fields and bogs. MASSIA is a project and residency space for individuals and groups from any field – artists, practitioners, researchers, scientists, activists, etc., who seek to examine and determine their own conditions of work. It is a self-organised residency that operates without staff and asks for participatory ways of being. MASSIA is for people who can motorize their own artistic and knowledge production, not only responding to the opportunities given by the institutional market. Initiated and run by artists, researchers and practitioners themselves, MASSIA is a user-created informal residency. There is no selection process and it is open to anyone as long as there are rooms available and as long as prospective participants agree with the basic principles laid out in MASSIA basics. Scandinavian Cello School is located next to a historic fishing village which features one of Denmark’s oldest harbors. An explosion in interest is due to the unique ethos at the school – achieve a healthy work-life balance, side by side with world class music training. Scandinavian Cello School was on the front page of the New York Times and seen by 2.1 billion worldwide with their alternative approach to things - such as playing music to farm animals. Outreach concerts, outdoor experiences and collective living are all part of their philosophy to create more balanced and ultimately better musicians. A founder and international award-winning cellist Jacob Shaw works closely to help promote, support and educate young musical talents. We welcome all musicians and all cultural visitors to take a mini-residency. For musicians, to be eligible to attend you must have a specific project in mind. Music is a strong artistic form of the past residents, however, we do accept other art forms. [photo by Carsten Snejberg]

It was founded by Katerina Savvides in 2019, from the need to exist in a multicultural and multidisciplinary artistic community, within which artists can find ongoing stimulation based on feedback exchange and critiques. Aiming to minimise the gap between the public and the local artistic community, MeMeraki’s main Residency Program hosts local and international artists, providing for three 2-3 month Residency Periods in the course of a running year.
