The Romanian Association for Contemporary Art (ARAC) is a non-profit organization founded in June 2012, in order to produce and promote contemporary art in Romania and abroad. An important objective of ARAC is to facilitate international cultural exchanges with artistic environments from around the world. Through the years, ARAC has organised residency programs, exhibitions and published art books while actively investigating and reflecting upon emerging developments in contemporary art and culture. ARAC is offering a residency opportunity for artists to freely develop artworks for an exhibition in Bucharest. [Photo: official website]
The Residency can host and collaborate with artists and other practitioners working primarily with new media and internet, performance, research-based work, video and moving image practice, voice based practice, lecture-performance, installation, site specific (public space) interventions and others, all relating to the layers, mechanisms, effects and politics of language and voice. Bucharest Air is further open to collaborations with curators, critics, writers, anthropologists, alongside experimental filmmakers. We highly encourage transdisciplinarity through collaboration with fields of activity other than the artists’, in a process of understanding the ramifications of public speech in arts, society, cultural and political movements, mass media and many other aspects. There are no age restrictions, and the Residency is open to all nationalities equally. Projects and proposals which take into consideration the specific context of Romania will have priority over more generalist approach. The application is accepted all year around. The At Home in Hundorf Association is the initiator and organizer of the art residency program “Școala de-Acasă” (ȘAH) designed for emerging young artists. Through two-week creative residencies spent amid a friendly rural community, we offer time and space for artists to identify and strengthen their individuality and facilitate a context for networking and collaboration. Seven consecutive editions of ȘAH have taken place so far in the village, hosting over 100 young artists. Starting in 2022, ȘAH has also opened its doors to international artists who share the residency space and time with their Romanian peers. Our team supports total creative freedom and believes in the importance of surprising process of the artists.
