  • Kunsthal GentGent, Belgium

Kunsthal Gent is an experimental intersection for the presentation and development of contemporary art, located in a monumental fourteenth-century Carmelite monastery in the centre of Ghent since 2018. Visual art is central to the programme, which is contantly nourished and challenged by architecture, design, audiovisual art, performing arts and art in public space. Withi this broad approach, Kunsthal Gent not only transcends the classical definitions of the artist, curator, critic and designer, but also breaks down the dividing lines between individual, collective, and organisation. Throughout the year, Kunsthal Gent offers approsimately six artists, collectives, or collaborative initiatives a mini-residency, with a maximum of one week's use of Kunstal Gent's apartment and a small budget. This short working period serves as an introduction to us and the development of ideas that may result in a larger collaboration. [Photo: from official site]

  • WielsBrussels, Belgium

Wiels is an international laboratory for the creation and the diffusion of contemporary art, and a space for innovative ideas and creative experiences. Up to 20 artists participate in the residency programme each year, in two sessions of 6 months. For each session, 2-3 of the 9 studios in WIELS are allocated to Belgium-based artists, while the remaining are dedicated to international residents, who are selected through specific calls. The residency provides working spaces in a suitable environment for artists who seek autonomy, feedback and/or interaction with peers, and the interdisciplinary art scene that Brussels in particular offers, engaging in current artistic and theoretical debates through weekly discussions with the mentors, visits, presentations and public interactions with audiences.

  • L’AlbaCharleroi (Walloon Region), Belgium

L'alba (Latin 'the dawn'), signifying the "House of Shared Talents", is an artist residence founded by Melanie de Biasio. The house aims to be a place of encounters, simplicity, and exchanges, a playground to broaden horizons. L'Alba offers creators a moment of pause, a warm and benevolent refuge, a laboratory where they can freely experiment with alternate paths, thus allowing the still submerged part of their talent to blossom and "let the imprudence come...", to paraphrase Alain Bashung. There is currently no call for residencies. Instead, we work based on the availability of spaces and the compelling nature of the projects presented at the application stage. Your application is welcome at any time. Four sectors are eligible for the residency: Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Literature and Books, and Heritage. The long-term residency (from 1 to 2 months), the medium-term residency (1 to 2 weeks), and the short-term residency (1 to 2 days) are available.

  • Frans Masereel CentrumKasterlee, Belgium

The Frans Masereel Centrum is a center for contemporary art, combining an artist-oriented exhibition and production schedule with an international residency program for artists and critics, often with a specific focus on printed matter-at-large. Each year approximately 50 national and international artists, researchers, critics and academics are selected through an open call. The focus lies on development and creation within the field of print. No prior knowledge of printmaking techniques is required. Our principal residency offers individual artists the opportunity to broaden and deepen their own practice through a multiform, print-related project. Also, we reserve the autumn for artist collectives, and master's students at colleges and universities, artistic co-workers, etc.
