Objective Our residence seeks to invite collaboration from all fields and backgrounds of people. We would like to create an inviting and clean atmosphere for artists to build their dreams as well as make a home out of the wonderful location that this residence resides in. Kyoto is a city with a great historic past, and this is something that is still seen in many aspects within the city. This is our opportunity to create amongst this traditional epicenter and allow it to still live in modern life as well.
Organization activities FELLINI Gallery Kyoto is an Art Center located ground floor of an eco-friendly boutique hotel, comprising an international art gallery, café/bar, ateliers, studios, and residency in the cultural and artistic city of Kyoto, Japan. Japan's cultural affairs agency's move from Tokyo to Kyoto opens a bright future for Kyoto's art scene. We are 3 min walk to the subway stop Sanjo Keihan, along the beautiful Kamo river, 5-10 minutes walk to Gion, Pontocho with many restaurants, bars, cafes, Nishiki market, Shijo, and Kawaramachi but inside is very quiet.

This extraordinary space where a diverse group of international artists, students, and business professionals can work and live concepts, has created a lot of excitement and success amongst artists in Berlin and we have created a similar concept in Kyoto. A long term or short-term residency and exhibition cooperation opportunities with the internationally known gallery are available.

For the residency depending on the high & low travel season, private rooms start from 800€ to 1000€ monthly and 100€ shared studio monthly. Residency does not guarantee the exhibition as the Gallery director chooses the artists. The monthly rate includes water, electricity, fully furnished Bed linens, towels, a washer/dryer, free bike parking, maid service, fastest free Wi-Fi, kitchen with full utensils. If you are interested please let us know your arrival and departure dates, and the type of accommodation.

There is no funding and the artist must pay for their own transportation and housing.

If you are already in Japan, you are welcome to view the space Mon-Sat 10:00 - 17:00, please let me know your preferred viewing time and arrival and departure dates.
Founded in 2008
Background FELLINI Gallery was founded in 2008 in Shanghai, China by an award-winning film producer and art lover. Inspired by the works of the legendary Italian film director Federico Fellini, FELLINI is destined to be an art salon where artists and art lovers can gather to exchange ideas and inspire progress. Spread over four stories in a European style former residence in Shanghai's historic French Concession, FELLINI's exceptional location and dynamic roster of artists quickly brought it to the attention of the international art scene. The gallery's rapid success in Shanghai led to the creation of a second location in the new art capital of Europe: Berlin.
FELLINI Gallery's Berlin branch was located in the vibrant and multicultural Bergmannkiez in Kreuzberg, and maintained the spirit of the original Shanghai gallery by exhibiting breathtaking art in a vast, extraordinary space.
FELLINI exhibits a wide range of work in the fine arts of painting, photography, sculpture, and performance as well as groundbreaking new media. FELLINI has strong connections to established artists and collectors in Los Angeles and China, while seeking to discover new talents in Kyoto and internationally. FELLINI specializes in artist exhibitions and promotion, art consulting, interior design, and lease-sale programs.
FELLINI Gallery Berlin has been closed since August 1, 2017 and has moved to Kyoto, Japan. Kyoto is considered the cultural capital of Japan and a major tourist destination. FELLINI Art Gallery Kyoto opening date has been postponed due to the Pandemic and the gallery opening date will be posted on our Website. Since May 1, 2019, FELLINI Kyoto have provided Artist ateliers, studios, and artist residency in the Kyoto City Center. We are 3 min walk from subway stop Sanjo Keihan, along the Kamo river, 5-10 minutes walk to Gion, Pontocho, Shijo, and Kawaramachi.
FELLINI holds regular events and collaborates with museums, chambers, libraries, and other international galleries. Our attendees are collectors, artists, art lovers, critics, and experts from various creative industries.
FELLINI's goal is to dream, inspire and create.
Location / Environment FELLINI Art Gallery and Residence is located in the heart of Kyoto’s epicenter in the Kawaramachi District. Both the gallery and residence are located just two minutes away from the Sanjo Station and the beautiful Kamo river—in fact, you can see this river from our balconies and rooftop. There are many bars, cafes, restaurants, and markets within minutes of our location-- although if solitude is what you seek, our residence provides that ability as well. If you are a nature lover, we are just a 15-minute bike or bus ride from the famous Mt Diamonji where you can enjoy a nice hike and view of the entire valley that Kyoto rests in. We are also a 25-minute bus ride to the forest and river in Arashiyama.
